Annie Gaburo Tutoring

Serving Metrowest, MA

Tutoring service specializing in the Orton-Gillingham approach.

I’m Annie Gaburo

Elementary school teacher trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach

I am a fourth-grade teacher with over a decade of experience in education. I teach at the Carroll School in Waltham, MA, a school that specializes in educating students with language-based learning differences, such as dyslexia.

I am an Associate Level member of Orton-Gillingham training. Orton-Gillingham is a highly effective, research-based, language tutoring service. Orton-Gillingham is a personalized, multi-sensory, diagnostic, prescriptive and direct method to teach students reading and spelling skills.

I am a graduate of Lesley University’s Graduate School of Education, receiving my master’s as a Specialist Teacher of Reading in December 2024. I attended undergrad at Colgate University and graduated in 2014 with a degree in English Literature. I have taught children ages 3-16 over the course of my career.

I live in Harvard, MA with my husband and two daughters, and enjoy hot yoga, strength training, and reading mysteries in my free time. I host students in my home in Harvard or can commute to most communities in the Metrowest area. I look forward to connecting and working together!

Services Offered

Orton-Gillingham Tutoring

This method of tutoring is my most popular package, and is geared at improving reading and spelling skills through explicit, multisensory, individualized phonics instruction. Students will work on phonemic and phonological awareness, vocabulary, decoding, reading fluency, and encoding.

I provide a unique and flexible learning program offering direct and multi-sensory instruction, building from known to unknown. Lessons are diagnostic and prescriptive, and are based on mastery from previous lessons.

Orton-Gillingham tutoring is ideal for children with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia. However, a formal dyslexia diagnosis is not necessary, and any child can and will benefit from this kind of instruction. This type of tutoring is ideal for students who struggle to read fluently and are not meeting grade-level expectations for reading and spelling benchmarks.

Summer Reading and Writing

Is your child reading on grade-level but needs some support on structuring and completing their summer reading assignment(s) or doing some extra writing practice before the fall? This package is a great option, and I will work with you and your child to design sessions to meet their unique curricular and learning goals.

No summer reading homework but just want to work on reading comprehension and fluency? Let’s do it, with a book of your child’s choice. Writing instruction can vary for what your child needs (paragraph writing, creative writing, or grammatical instruction).
